Observing a Lot

Once in a while I take a long break from drawing, or painting and just simply observe. Whether through my camera lense, sketching, or just looking intently at objects.  At times I work with the changing seasons, winter months I am somewhat dormant and observe the most, spring I come alive and get excited about the abundance of newlife and color. The summer months continues the vibrance, excitement and colors in full bloom, my favorite is the fall, there are colors everywhere, beautiful hues and earthtones and let’s not forget the enticing aromas.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

It has been a while since I have posted, but I could not allow 2009 to close without me posting a final one for the year.  Some burden I unloaded, forgiveness to myself and others wherein I found peace. It was a trying year to say the least, but I learned and grew a lot. One such lesson, if you don’t fit in some peoples program they have no use for you and you will quickly discarded. Self preservation is not being selfish, it is having wisdon and knowing your limitations,  don’t allow anyone to tell you differently.

I don’t make resolutions, I just have mind sets which I don’t reveal until they are accomplished. This I know, a new day is not promised to anyone, it is by God’s grace we make it through. I thank God He has allowed me to come this far.

The Joy of Networking!

I am often asked if, I was not an artist, what other career would I chose, that’s easy…lawyer.  It has been three years now since I have seriously decided to focus on art. It is challenging to say the least, but increasingly inspiring. Besides being in the studio and working I enjoy the networking and marketing side of it. I do a lot on the internet, and have met individuals, fellow artists who I have come to respect and of whom I consider to be friends and peers. They have given me credible advice, helped me with technical issues to increase my web visibility and most important shared endless laughs.
I realize in this business as an artist one has to be tough, strong, resilient  be prepared for rejection, respond well to  criticism good and bad, and know that not everyone will like  you or your work. The most important thing is I am passionate about the work I do and I enjoy doing it.

This morning while waiting for my ride to work, I went to my backyard and I saw some images that reminded me of my artist friends. Seeing that I always carry a camera, here we go!

Once in a While – A Bit of Poetry

101_1102Along with drawing, painting, taking photographs, I write, and ever so often I write poems. Similar to my art I am influenced and inspired by my surroundings, people, and just everyday life. Once in a while I show my poems, here is one of those times. This one was written over ten(10) years ago, it got published in the literary arts magazine at college.

Summer

She leaves in a blaze of glory
Splashing her bright colors
On the oaks and maples,
Heralding the fall.
Her heat simmers to a cool wisp
Touching my face the with gentle reminder that
The cold winter draws nigh.

She lies down quietly
No, she is not dead.
Winter’s gray, ghostly blanket covers her, she is unseen.
She takes with her the frolic and the laughter of the long days.

Before long, she stirs again,
Bringing with her chirping birds,
Flashy tulips and new life,
Springing from every corner
Paving the way for her dramatic entrance.

Looking forward to Fall

As the summer winds down ( I know it came late for us here in New England) and fall approaches, I am looking forward to my favorite time of the year. The cool, crip mornings, the color splash of bright reds, oranges, yellows and various hues on the trees. The variety of blooms  of chyrsantemums, road side stalls of honey and harvest produce.  The texture of gourds, squash, pumpkins, acorns, I look forward to  the crunches of the leaves under my footsteps, and the crackling sounds as squirrels hurries about gathering nuts I am look forward to all of these. The beautiful sunsets then give rise to a full bright tawny havest moon. Everything  about the smell, sounds,  sights and textures of fall stimulates me creatively.
I am looking forward to roving with my camera this fall and find scenes to that will be frozen forever , and each time they are viewed, I can say, “I remember when.”  For my audience, may their words be, ” I want to be there.”
