How often have you heard, “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”, or being black (dark skinned) equated with being ugly? I once viewed a documentary on You Tube about bleaching amongst Jamaican women, I am fully aware it is not unique to the island nation but is extremely popular. I could not help but feel sadden by one young man’s comment saying “I don’t like dark skinned women because they are too black and ugly.” Oh, the self hate, seeing he is dark skinned and a very good chance so are his parents and other family member.
Who told us the lie that we are ugly, making us want to be light to white? I just love the skin I am in.
